SUstainable Spatial Development with a NETwork of PORT's for Boat Tourism in Baltic Sea Region

INTERREG Project SuPortNet
  Objective:
INTERREG IIIB and IIC are Community Initiatives of the European Union. The INTERREG programme is part-financed from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Main Objective of the INTERREG Initiative is to support transnational co-operation to enhance balanced and sustainable development of the European territory.
The INTERREG project SuPortNet was initiated by the VASAB cooperation; but has a longer history. It is the continuation of INTERREG II C SuPortNet phase I that based on first bilateral actions between Germany (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) - and Poland already in 1995 (physical network concepts for the coastline).

Main Objective is to improve the network of pleasure boat harbours in the Baltic Sea Region. Boat tourism offers regional economic development opportunities, not least in small communities having lost traditional harbour functions (fishery, commercial port), but requires a network approach across borders.

Project Duration Phase 1:
Jan 1999 – Dec. 2001
funded by Interreg II C

Project Duration Phase 2:
Jan-2002 - Jan. 2005
funded by Interreg III B
